Management Systems & Standards

Sustainability Management Systems

International sustainability management systems and standards such as ISO14001 or EMAS for Environmental Management or ISO50001 for CSR Management are often viewed purely as a box-ticking exercise.

We believe the value to organisations goes much deeper and when fully embraced, these systems can provide a catalyst for genuine improvements in sustainability performance, as well as a recognised benchmark and communication tool for staff and suppliers alike.

Similar to other management systems, such as those that manage quality or safety, our sustainability management systems: assess strengths and weaknesses; help  identify and manage significant impacts; can secure cost savings and internal efficiencies; provide sustainability benchmarks for improvements and intended benefits; and helps set targets and keep track of progress.

Whilst we have generic resources from which to build sustainability management systems, we do not offer a one-size-fits-all solution. We firmly believe that while there are many common factors across organisations, each business needs systems that are adapted to suit their unique systems, culture and reporting frameworks.

EDP has provided tailored management system services for almost 20 years, including installing our own sustainability consultants on client sites to operate as "virtual" embedded employees and providing direct consultancy support.

We have helped steer our clients to the highest international awards for environmental performance and successfully repeated the achievement year after year, working in partnership to consistently achieve economic and environmental savings in the areas of energy, carbon and waste.
