Whether you are a Client, a Designer or a Contractor, the following questions and answers apply to you.

Q. Why should I concern myself with the CDM Regulations 2007?
A. If you are involved with any kind of non-domestic construction work, then you are legally bound to comply with the CDM Regulations. If it is a notifiable project (see glossary of construction terms), then a CDM Coordinator and a Principal Contractor must be appointed for the work. Beyond legal compliance there is the high incidence of fatal and serious accidents on construction sites that the regulations are designed to address. Ignoring these statistics could result in expensive criminal investigations and prosecutions and do inestimable damage to your commercial reputation.

Q. We already have a Health and Safety Policy in place, what more do we need?
A. Your Policy is only the start – documenting your stated commitment to safeguard health and safety. To be effective, you have to put your commitment into practice and the CDM Regulations are the means of ensuring you do so in an effective and efficient manner. See Scope of the CDM Regulations.

Q. What can EDP do to help us comply with the CDM Regulations?
A. For every notifiable project (see glossary of construction terms) you must appoint a CDM Coordinator, to guide and advise you in regard to the CDM Regulations. We have consultants available with the necessary experience, qualifications and general competence to act as CDM Coordinator for your project or for a series of projects. For more information, see Duties of the CDM Coordinator

Q. How much extra cost will we have to add to each project to comply with the CDM Regulations?
A. The cost of compliance depends on a wide range of variables such as the size and complexity of the project and any significant risks that are peculiar to the type of construction work you are undertaking.
However, a more pertinent question is what will be the cost of non-compliance, which can take the form of prohibitions on the construction work, accidents and possible fatalities for workers, the disruption to the project during investigations, criminal and civil prosecutions and, of course, the impact of a serious accident on any future contracts for which you are bidding.

Q. Who are EDP anyway? Why should we trust you with our construction projects?
