COSHH Assessor

Overview

People may be exposed to hazardous substances at work that can cause serious illness and can even be fatal. Such exposure can also result in reduced productivity, lost earnings and expensive prosecutions.

Under the COSHH Regulations, employers must undertake suitable and sufficient risk assessments of substances used in the workplace and the effectiveness of their control measures.

Objectives

The aims of this course are:

To understand the requirements of the COSHH Regulations.
To raise employee understanding of the health and safety issues associated with using and handling hazardous substances.
To enable staff to undertake suitable assessments as defined within the regulations.


Who should attend

Staff who have been appointed to carry out COSHH assessments.

Duration

The course requires 1 day, which includes practical application of the knowledge gained.

Preparation

Before the start of the course, the instructor should be informed about any existing COSHH assessments and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

When delivered ‘in house’, the course can be tailored to the client's specific needs and can include practical application of the assessments within the workplace.
