Caring for our Air

The air around us can be polluted in any number of ways, including:

Cloud in the Sky
  • Ozone Depletion
  • Smoke Grit and Dust
  • Solvents and other Pollutants
  • Waste Incineration

However, Climate Change, brought about by emissions of greenhouse gases, is recognised as much more than an environmental nuisance – it is seen as threatening the planet itself.

Whilst Carbon Dioxide is one of the main contributors to climate change, it isn't the only problem. There are a number of others, including Methane and Nitrous Oxide, for example.

The UK Government is committed to limiting emissions of greenhouse gases under the terms of the Kyoto Protocol. In practical terms, this means reducing emissions by 12.5% of their 1990 levels by 2008 to 2012.

Businesses have a major role to play in achieving these targets and the UK Government has introduced a number of incentives with this aim in view, including:

  • Climate Change Levy
  • Climate Change Agreements
  • EU Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme

In its simplest terms, we are all being called upon to minimise emissions of Carbon Dioxide through energy saving initiatives, which not only contribute to saving our planet but can also save on our energy costs.
