Introduction
With our experience in access consultancy, EDP is well placed to help our clients through the Disability Discrimination Acts. We use Consultant Members of the National Register of Access Consultants for all our Access Consultancy work.
We offer Access advice to clients from private individuals to blue chip companies and we are able to provide:

Our recent contracts include:
- Access Audit of Microsoft’s Reading campus development, including provision of an Access Statement and design guidance for their latest building on the site

Overview
Access Appraisals
An Access Appraisal is the first stage in the design process and ensures that the scheme incorporates the best possible design for a new development.
EDP services typically include:
- Review of the design to provide advice for the project architects
- Production of a report on the access approach and development justification for the design detail as the scheme develops.
This process assists the architect by preparing for the Access Statement. It ensures the design meets best practice, whilst avoiding the need for expensive redesign work.
Access Statements
Following the advice to project architects, our consultants lead on to preparing an Access Statement for the scheme.
As part of the planning application, an Access Statement is required for all but the very smallest developments. The Statement sets out standards for access and how the design can achieve them.
Access Statements are evolving documents, that are tailored and updated as the design of a scheme is developed.
Access Audits
Preparation of EDP's Access Audits is in accordance with industry best practice and they are tailored to suit the specific needs of each client. A key aspect of our service is the test of reasonableness, as required by the Disability Discrimination (Act 1995).
