Introduction to Risk Assessment

Overview

The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations requires an employer to make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to workers and any others who may be affected by their undertakings.

This course is designed to provide such guidance as is necessary for the identification of hazards associated with the working environment and the principles to be applied in relation to carrying out suitable risk assessments.

Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

Understand the broad outline of the statutory obligations with respect to risk assessment.
Recognise common hazards associated with the working environment.
Apply the principles of risk assessment to work activities.
Carry out risk assessments utilising an agreed format.


Who should attend

The course is suitable for persons undertaking any of the following roles:

Managers accountable for implementing health and safety matters.
Persons nominated to undertake the role of Risk Assessor.
Health and Safety Coordinators.
Persons who may have specific health and safety responsibilities defined in their job descriptions.


Duration

This is a one-day course.

Preparation

Participants should bring along the results of any previous work they have done on Risk Assessments.

Materials

Manuals will be provided to all delegates along with appropriate reference materials.
