IOSH Managing Safely

Overview

This is a practical course, full of step-by-step guidance and with a sharp business focus. It uses an innovative format to engage and inspire delegates about essential health and safety messages.

Excellent quality animated graphics, DVDs, games and quizzes provide a sophisticated and fun presentation that communicates the essential technical content that delegates need to know in practice.

Objectives

To provide anyone who has management or supervisory responsibility for others with the essential health and safety basics they need to discharge their responsibilities in an effective manner.

Who should attend

This course is for managers and supervisors in any sector and any type of organisation. It is designed to bring managers up to speed on the practical actions they need to take in order to handle health and safety in their teams in an effective manner.

Duration

The course comprises 8 modules and is typically run over 4 days.

Materials

Materials are provided for all course activities and each delegate receives an IOSH workbook that includes sections for notes and Q&A sessions.

Certification

An IOSH ‘Managing Safely’ certificate is awarded to all those who attend the course and successfully complete the written and practical assessments.

Understanding of the course material is evaluated by:-
A 45-minute written assessment paper consisting of multi-format questions

A handwritten practical assessment of the delegates own workplace
This assessment will usually be completed within the 4 day session, however, there is an option for it to be completed back in the workplace following the last day of the course. How the project is completed will be discussed and agreed between the trainer & delegates at the beginning of the course.

Assessing risk.
Demystifies risk and risk assessments. Introduces a simple risk scoring system for managers to carry out a series of risk assessments.

Controlling risk.
Choosing the best methods and techniques for controlling key risks.

Your responsibilities.
Examining how the legal system works and introducing Safety Management Systems.

Identifying hazards.
Covers the main types of hazards typically encountered in the workplace.

Investigating accidents and incidents.
Why things go wrong, why investigate accidents and how to carry out an investigation.

Measuring performance.
How checks can improve health and safety. Using basic performance indicators with proactive and reactive monitoring and audits.

Protecting our environment.
Introduction to waste and pollution control with a look at how organisations and managers can help reduce environmental impact.
