Restrictive Physical Intervention / Safe Holding
Course Overview
Day 1 – provides learners with the knowledge of the basic working principals of English Law, including the various Health and Safety Sections and associated Regulations, in relation to the use of physical restraint. The unit also covers the risk associated with physical restraint and how to minimise those risks through risk assessment and awareness and compliance with regulations.
Day 2 – develops the skills and knowledge required to enable learners to safely apply appropriate and effective methods of restraint using primarily non harmful methods of control. More restrictive methods of control can be taught where there is a higher risk environment.
Course Objectives
By the end of this session the delegates will:
Understand the Law in relation to the use of physical restraint
Evaluate the risks associated with physical restraint and consider methods to reduce the risk
Demonstrate non-harmful methods of control and how to safely apply them
Where required demonstrate more restrictive methods of control and when they should be used.
Who Should Attend
All employees who work within an environment where there is a requirement for the use of restraint
Course Duration
This is a 2 day course.

Positional asphyxia risks
Non-harmful methods of control
Teamwork
Restrictive methods of control
Controlled take down and up
Demonstration of techniques that should not be used.
