Course Content

The course covers the following topics:

  • Legal background to Health and Safety.
  • Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 (amended 2002).
  • Approved Codes of Practice and British Standards.
  • Legal requirements for typical workstation components.
  • Risks associated with the use of Display Screen Equipment and how to address them.
  • Introduction and use of the Self Assessment and Personal Assessment Questionnaires.
  • Classroom-based mock Risk Assessments.

Overview

The Display Screen Equipment Regulations require an employer to assess display screen equipment work stations to identify health and safety hazards that could pose a risk to staff.

This course is designed to assist risk assessors in carrying out suitable and sufficient assessments of display screen equipment workstations.

Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the standards relating to the use and siting of display screen equipment.
  • Undertake successful display screen assessments, following the required format.
  • Advise staff on the methods available to reduce the likelihood of health related problems associated with the use of display screen equipment.

This course is suitable for:

  • Persons nominated as Display Screen Equipment Risk Assessors.
  • Health and Safety Co-ordinators.
  • Managers responsible for implementing Health and Safety policies.

Duration

The course requires one full day, which includes a classroom-based mock workstation assessment.

Preparation

Participants may bring along the results of any previous work or issues on assessing display screen equipment.

Materials

Delegates receive a course manual, along with a number of related documents, including example Risk Assessment forms.
