Course Content

The course covers the following topics:

  • Role of Appointed Person
  • Care and Treatment of an Unconscious Person
  • Treatment of wounds and bleeding
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

Overview

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations require that an employer provides suitable arrangements for rendering First-Aid to persons injured at work.

Depending on the perceived risks associated with the business and the availability of qualified assistance, persons should be trained to either "designated" or "appointed" level.

This course covers the essential knowledge that is needed for the role of "appointed" person.

Objectives

This course is suitable for "First-Aid Appointed" persons

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Render Emergency First Aid to an injured person until medical assistance is available.
  • Recognise and appropriately treat most emergency situations.
  • Fulfil the criteria outlined for an “appointed” person within the First-Aid Regulations.

Who should attend

Any person who is deemed suitable and is intended to fulfil the role of an “appointed” person.

Duration

Initial training requires 1 Day.

Whilst there is no compulsory requirement for retraining, it is normally considered beneficial for "appointed" persons to have their skills reassessed every 3 years.

Reassessment and retraining requires a half-day session.

Preparation

Participants should be of such a disposition as to be able to take control and stay calm in an emergency.

Materials

Delegates receive handouts and other appropriate reference materials.
