Course Content

The course covers the following topics:

  • Why should environmental emergencies be prevented and controlled?
  • The importance of environmental emergency response plans
  • Introduction to the source-pathway-receptor model with worked example
  • Introduction to dynamic risk assessment
  • Practical emergency spill response exercise under controlled conditions
  • De-brief on rights and wrongs when handling spill response equipment

Please note – the session can use your organisation's existing spill response procedures in order to ensure that delegates understand the procedures in place within your business.

Overview

In the event of a spill on site, would your employees know what to do?

This course provides hands-on experience of the use of spill response equipment and how to undertake dynamic risk assessment in order to ensure the protection of the environment and human health during an environmental incident on site.

The course should be run in-house for your organisation's spill response team.

Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Understand the environmental impact of spills on site.
  • Increase their knowledge and confidence in using emergency spill response equipment through the execution of a practical spill response exercise.
  • Understand the concept of the source-pathway-receptor model in pollution risk appraisal.
  • Be able to undertake a dynamic risk assessment of an incident in order to ensure the protection of the environment and human health during an environment incident.

Who should attend

Members of organisation spill response teams.

Duration

The course can be run over a full day or half a day, depending on the nature of emergencies that need to be covered.

Preparation

No preparation is normally required but if the course is to follow existing spill response procedures, these should be available before the start of the course.

Materials

Each delegate receives copies of reference materials used on the course.

Certification

Each delegate who successfully completes the course receives an EDP Certificate of Attendance.
