Overview

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order requires an employer to assess the suitability of measures currently in place to protect people from the risk of fire.

Additionally, an employer is required to provide suitable training for those members of staff who are responsible for assisting in the fire evacuation procedure.

This course covers the essential knowledge that is needed for this role.

Objectives

The course is designed to assist employees who are nominated as fire wardens to carry out their duties effectively.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the structure of Health and Safety Legislation
  • Understand the main components of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order
  • Understand how fire can occur and the means by which fire can spread
  • Identify common fuel and ignition sources
  • Identify common responsibilities of a fire warden
  • Advise on control measures that can be taken to prevent the likelihood of fire occurring or minimise the spread of fire
  • Utilise effectively the various means of fire fighting equipment available

Who should attend

Persons who have been nominated to undertake the role of Fire Warden.

Duration

The basic course requires a half day.

Preparation

To gain maximum benefit from the course, delegates are advised to be familiar with local evacuation arrangements for their place of work, including evacuation routes and assembly points.

If available delegates should bring a copy of any existing procedure to the session.
