Overview

Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations, employers are required to assess manual handling tasks which cannot be avoided, and reduce the risk of injury to the lowest reasonably practicable level.

The Regulations also require that suitable and sufficient training be provided to those employees who carry out such tasks to enable them to do so in a safe manner.

This course is designed to provide a basic foundation for assisting those individuals responsible for delivering training in accordance with the Manual Handling Regulations - to deliver a course based on the Health and Safety Executive's Six Basic Principles for Safe Lifting.

Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations.
  • Understand the basic workings of the spine and joints and possible causes of injury.
  • Produce suitable materials for delivering safe lifting training courses.
  • Advise others of suitable control measures to be adopted when undertaking Manual Handling Assessments and training.

Who should attend

Persons who have been selected for the role of trainer in safe lifting.

Duration

This is a three day course, which involves individual delegates making presentations in front of other delegates, development and delivery of practical safe lifting instruction to others and written examinations.

Preparation

Participants should be prepared for practical and theoretical presentations to others.

Each delegate receives a comprehensive manual and presentation materials.
