EDP has supplied environmental health and safety (EHS) consultancy services to an international professional services provider since 2011, delivering health and safety management, environmental and sustainability services across the organisation’s growing global operations.
Initially, we provided a healthy working and workstation risk management service in the UK and Ireland. While we still provide this service, our support has extended following our growth over the past ten years.
Healthy working and workstation risk management – UK and Ireland – corporate properties
Working under a term contract, our consultants have provided the following services in the UK and Ireland:
We have nine full-time consultants embedded in the client’s team, providing a managed service to ensure high standards of delivery and continuity. This service is highly regarded within the client operations, typically scores 95–100% against monthly key performance indicators and service level agreements and receives excellent feedback from the client staff supported by our team.
EHS and fire safety consultancy – North America, Europe and APAC
The project centred on acquiring a large business with about 15 international sites in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region (APAC). The sites were a mixture of manufacturing, assembly, warehousing and office/administrative spaces.
Working with the client’s corporate real estate and workplace teams and stakeholders, EDP project-managed and conducted EHS due diligence audits using a global network of EHS professionals to identify and report on any red flag issues. Owing to time constraints, a risk screening and prioritisation exercise was conducted and priority locations identified for first phase site assessments, with additional assessments conducted following key milestones.
The final stage consisted of EHS compliance reviews and fire risk assessments conducted after the deal was signed to enable the integration of the business and allow the client to produce a costed, risk-based remedial programme.

EDP supported the corporate real estate team as it developed a prioritised list of EHS and fire remedial actions to ensure the sites achieved compliance with all relevant local code. We also contributed to a lessons-learned exercise to help develop an internal due diligence process for future mergers and acquisitions.

Building safety (fire) consulting – global properties
With its global life safety team, EDP provided qualified, technical advice on new and current buildings and buildings undergoing refurbishment regarding fire and other building safety measures.
The purpose of the contract is to help protect life, property and the wider environment from the risk and effects of fire and it includes a broader review of building codes to help ensure that properties meet local and industry legislative requirements. This is in support of the AP58 and single staircase review processes within this team.
As part of this contract, EDP supported the client to develop new global life safety standards that provide clear expectations while remaining locally relevant. EDP’s success in fulfilling this role has been due to its broad experience of working across multiple geographic markets and knowledge of international building and fire safety codes.
Health and safety and fire risk assessments and compliance reviews – various global properties
EDP completed several risk assessments and EHS compliance reviews at properties in Europe and Asia in support of the real estate team.
Work involved assessing the facility in question against national and regional codes to identify any non-compliance or areas of improvement, reporting on these and providing any follow up consultancy required to support the client in closing out the actions identified.
